Choker in Silver

$450.00

A sculptural choker in recycled sterling silver, delicately resembling the shape of barbed wire, inspired by the Las Gorras Blancas movement, an 1880’s political protest in response to property theft from western squatters, as New Mexico became a state. Titled 'Don't Fence Me In', this piece serves as a meaningful reminder for us all, while tapping into the designer's personal effort for autonomy and independence as an Indigenous woman, the beauty and form of barbed wire, and the complex symbolism behind it. Designed by artist Maida Branch, and hand made by Gino Antonio in the Navajo Nation. Wear as a perfect set with the matching Cuff Bracelet. Three sizes, approximately 14, 15, or 16 inches in circumference with no gap, expandable to fit most neck sizes. Each piece is a unique handmade work of art, with natural variations welcomed.
